Emirates Airlines stands as the largest airline company in the Middle East and is one of the two flagship carriers of the United Arab Emirates. The Emirates Group is under the ownership of the Dubai government's Investment Corporation and operates an extensive network with over 3,600 flights weekly from its hub at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport. Covering more than 150 cities across 80 countries, Emirates connects passengers across six continents through a nearly 300-strong fleet. Cargo operations are managed by Emirates SkyCargo.
Emirates ranks as the world's fourth-largest airline and holds the distinction of being the second-largest in terms of freight-tonne-kilometres flown.
Emirates was established in response to the reduction in Gulf Air services to Dubai during the mid-1980s. After five years of planning, Emirates took flight with an initial capital of $10 million. Notably, Emirates' cabin crew received valuable training assistance from Pakistan International Airlines at Karachi Airport in its early days. The present chairman of the airline is Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum. In 2008, the airline completed the relocation of all its operations to Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport.
Emirates distinguishes itself by operating an all-wide body aircraft fleet, holding the title of the largest Airbus A380 operator with 110 aircraft in service since its inception. Additionally, Emirates Airlines boasts the largest Boeing 777 fleet globally, with 134 aircraft in operation.
Corporate Management
Emirates operates as a subsidiary of the Emirates Group, which is itself a subsidiary of Dubai's government-owned Investment Corporation of Dubai. The airline consistently delivers significant profits.
Remarkably, Emirates has maintained an annual growth rate of never less than 20%, doubling in size approximately every 3.5 years within its first 11 years of operation.
In 2015, Emirates paid dividends totaling AED 2.6 billion, a notable increase from AED 1 billion in the preceding year (2014).
The sole owner of the company is the Dubai Government, although it does not infuse further capital into the airline.
